Ideas We Should Steal Festival 2021

By The Philadelphia Citizen (other events)

2 Dates Through Dec 14, 2021

ABOUT ABOUT

For this year’s Ideas We Should Steal Festival, The Citizen looked across the country for the ideas, leaders, changemakers and innovators that are transforming cities in America to optimize Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Prosperity.

We’re bringing them to Philadelphia on Monday, December 13 and Tuesday, December 14, to share with our audience of passionate citizens a way to create a city that meets this particular moment, full of challenges and opportunities, so that all Philadelphians can flourish and grow.

Among the featured speakers we’ll hear from are…

  • Orange is the New Black author Piper Kerman and REFORM Alliance CEO Robert Rooks on how to rethink prisons and probation
  • Friends of the Children CEO Terri Sorenson on how to fight generational poverty
  • Newark Community Street Teams director Aqeela Sherills on how to fight violence with better public safety
  • Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on The American Right author Arlie Hochschild, on understanding the Trump voter
  • MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi, and many more …

Go here for the full list of speakers, and check back often for the other bold-faced names we’ll be adding to the roster.

This year's festival starts on Monday, December 13, 2021, from 6 to 8pm at the Fitler Club Ballroom, with Tony and Obie-award winning singer-songwriter Stew, of Passing Strange and Notes of a Native Song, and Princeton professor Eddie S. Glaude Jr., author of Begin Again: James Baldwin’s America and Its Urgent Lessons for Our Own, in conversation/performance with MSNBC’s Ali Velshi. The evening, titled “What Would Jimmy Do?,” will be a mix of conversations and performances about legendary writer and public intellectual James Baldwin. It includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from Philabundance Community Kitchen.

The main event, our fourth annual Ideas We Should Steal Festival takes place on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 8:30am to 2pm, also in the Fitler Club ballroom. Continental breakfast, lunch and snacks will be served.
